Here’s a concise hard list of the main Democratic (or Democrat-backed/affiliated) politicians, candidates, and former officials arrested, charged, or convicted roughly in the last two weeks (around August 5–19, 2026), including Desiree Lynch:
• Desiree Lynch (Stockton, CA City Council District 5 candidate): Arrested August 19, 2026, on five felony counts of perjury, false voter registration, and filing a false declaration of candidacy. Prosecutors say she falsely claimed residency in District 5 while living outside it (including addresses tied to a bar and apartments). Bail was $100,000; she faces up to about 6 years 8 months if convicted on all counts. The race is nonpartisan but she was described as Democrat-backed.
• Brian DePeña (Democratic Mayor of Lawrence, Massachusetts): Arrested August 14, 2026, by the FBI on federal wire fraud and money laundering charges. He allegedly diverted more than $1.5 million in COVID-era Economic Injury Disaster Loans meant for his tire business into his mayoral campaign, personal tax debts, and high-interest property mortgages. He faces up to 20–30 years potentially if convicted; he posted bond after an initial appearance.
• Lon Burnam (former Democratic Texas State Representative): Arrested August 4, 2026 (with misdemeanor charges formalized around August 12), for disrupting a Tarrant County Commissioners Court meeting. He was carried out by deputies and spent hours in jail after protesting a proposal to cut nearly half of Election Day voting sites; charges are Class A/B misdemeanors for disorderly conduct and disrupting a meeting. He is a longtime voting-rights advocate who served 1997–2015.
• Sheryl Williams Stapleton (former Democratic New Mexico House Majority Leader): Convicted August 14, 2026, by a federal jury on all counts (bribery, mail fraud, money laundering, conspiracy, and related charges) after a multi-year case. She allegedly steered school funds (including federal money) to a friend’s company in exchange for roughly $1.15 million in kickbacks while serving as a legislator and school administrator. Sentencing is pending; theoretical maximum exposure is decades in prison.
